Our materials

AWS takes great pride in their antique lumber sources. Aged antique lumber is salvaged from old barns, factories, warehouses, boxcars, coal liners, wine barrels and other unique locations.

Some types of antique wood can prove to be rare since some species of trees during that time period are now less abundant. These enduring materials amplify the appeal, energy, and value of the final piece.

AWS takes great pride in their antique lumber sources. Brilliantly Aged antique lumber is salvaged from old barns, factories, warehouses, boxcars, coal liners, wine barrels and other locations.

The wood's age and original origins is disclosed in a letter of authenticity that comes with every antique lumber piece.

Reclaimed antique lumber is popular for many reasons such as it's beautiful look and feel and the energy it produces when used in furniture. Reclaimed lumber can have increased strength from non-polluted tree growth or the curing process from modulating humidity levels throughout the years .

AWS lumber may have come from a barn or fence that is well over 100 years old. Every Barn wood piece is unique and has hand sanded wood with rough character purposefully remaining. Sometimes old nails are taken out leaving tastefully patterned marks in the wood and sometimes they are left in to add genuine character. The lumber may have knots that have fallen out creating a natural look. Barn wood ranges in color from a light grey to a Dark-Brown.

Below are a couple of the many materials used by AWS.

Blue Pine:

Blue Pine is the name for Pinewood that has been killed by the American Pine Beetle. Beetles create beautiful color variances in the natural wood. Blue Pinewood ranges from Light-Yellow to orange tinged Yellow, to Dark-Brows, to Gray and/or Blue-Grays with various intensity of colors. Blue Pine has a lot of character with knots, wood grain and color. It is often referred to as reclaimed wood because it is killed by the Beetles. We like to finish our Blue Pine with our high-quality Clear Coat Finish.

Long Leaf Pine:

Another common type of reclaimed wood is Long Leaf Pine. It was used in factories and warehouses built during the Industrial Revolution. Coast Redwood was also popular during that same time period and it was used for barns and other structures. American Chestnut was also used.
